Intermittent guitar cables, trouble with the monitors, forgotten lyrics, a wrong chord here and there... these are the things that haunt my dreams. But despite these imperfections this live set pretty well represents what this band sounds like - there is wonderful spirit, some amazing musicianship and commitment to the songs here.

My heartfelt thanks to Jay, Jon, John & Steve (who have been playing with me an average of about 17 years) whose contributions to these songs is truly invaluable.

Thanks also to WFMU for hosting us and to their all volunteer staff

Thanks to George Kopp for the amazing photographs (

Huge thanks to Richard Brukner for his great ears and patience.

Videos of all these performances are available (and recommended) for viewing on You Tube:

Michael Shelley New York

The Onion: "Shelley finds common ground between teen angst and grown-up heartbreak." No Depression: "Proving wisdom and whimsy can coexist in the same two-and-a-half-minute-roots-pop excursion, Shelley's writing strikes the correct balance between conversational and clever. His adventures feel like your adventures presuming that you've survived first loves, sunburns and faulty relationships." ... more
